We’re going to take you for your first ever SUP adventure, but we’ll be doing it with a bit of Style.
The Grand Canal is a perfect flat-water thoroughfare through the centre of south Dublin city. We’ll be taking in the sights and sounds of the city while also learning how to stand up paddleboard in a safe, flat and controlled environment.
It’ll take about two hours for us to navigate our way up to the Inchicore Lock and back again, by the time you’re back on dry land in Portobello you’ll be a competent Stand Up Paddleboarder.
We’re meeting at 6.00pm at the canal front in Portobello just between Portobello harbour Square and the Dublin Bikes Stand (You won’t miss us)… if you’re having any trouble just follow the map below.
We’ll be setting off west towards Inchicore on a round trip that should take two hours. On this trip we’ll cover a whole host of SUP skills including:
Handling your SUP board correctly, entering and exiting the water safely, basic paddling techniques, balance, coming to a stop, turning and getting off safely.
We’ll also touch on backwards paddling, reading the weather and understanding the tides (theory on tides obviously), identifying safe entry and exit points, and finally self rescue.
We should be finished and dried off by 8.30pm and you’ll be ready to paint the town red or sneak off home to bed.
WHAT TO BRING
It’s a handy enough event, all you have to do is bring the following and we’ll supply the rest.
- A towel
- A wetsuit if you want to use your own, otherwise we’ll provide one
- Swimsuit or trunks for under the wetsuit
- Some warm cloths and a bag to put them in
- Your sense of adventure
