Based on one of Ireland’s best beginner beaches, The BigStyle surf school will have you suited up, smiling, and standing on your first wave in no time.
The Experience
Our lessons take place on Cross Beach, a wide, west-facing stretch of sand just outside Louisburgh. It’s the perfect beach for learning — minimal rocks, no reef, plenty of open space, and a sandy shallow area with gentle white-water waves.
For more advanced surfers, Cross Beach can produce phenomenal conditions on a good offshore day. Whether you’re brand new to surfing or looking to build confidence in the Atlantic, our experienced instructors will guide you through paddling, popping up, balance, and wave selection — all in a safe, supportive, and seriously fun environment.
We use beginner-friendly foam surfboards from UP — light, floaty, and safe — along with warm 5mm sea-skin wetsuits (booties available on request), so you’re comfortable whatever the season.

A 2-hour instructor-led session designed for complete beginners or improvers. Learn the fundamentals, build confidence, and catch your first waves with expert guidance. All equipment included.
Surf Rental
Already know your way around a board? Rent one of our beginner-friendly foam boards and wetsuits and enjoy Cross Beach at your own pace.
Surf & Spa
Ireland’s only Surf & Spa package. A 1.5-hour surf lesson followed by a 50-minute session in our wood-burning sauna, hot tub, and plunge pool at The Big Dipper — the ultimate combination of adrenaline and relaxation.

The Lodge is located a 25 minute drive south of Westport, just outside the town of Louisburgh.
From our hilltop vantage point we look out over Cross and Carrowniskey surf beaches, the world class flat water kitesurfing spot of Cross Lake and all the way to Croagh Patrick.
All within a few minutes drive.
