Solo SUP Session

Confident on a board? The harbour is yours to explore. A self-guided paddle for experienced SUPers who want the freedom to cruise at their own pace.

Book a Session

The Experience

Our Solo Session is designed for paddlers who already have SUP experience — either with BigStyle or elsewhere — and feel comfortable handling themselves on the water.

You’ll meet us at the BigStyle SUP School at least 15 minutes before your session to get signed in, suited up, and matched with the right equipment. We’ll give you a short safety briefing covering harbour guidelines and paddling boundaries, and then you’re free to head out and explore.

The session lasts 1.5 hours on the water, but allow around 2 hours in total including changing time.

This is your time to paddle, explore, practise technique, or simply enjoy being out on the water.

⚠️ Important

Solo sessions are only available to paddlers with previous SUP experience.

If we believe someone has booked a solo session without sufficient experience, we will have to remove them from the water for safety reasons. If you’re unsure, we strongly recommend booking a Guided Session instead.

Where We Are

Dun Laoghaire Harbour, just 10km from Dublin city centre, spans 200 acres of historic, sheltered water — making it the perfect place to learn Stand Up Paddle. Protected from most wind directions and offering plenty of space, it’s ideal for beginners. We’re based at the slipway in Coal Harbour, the oldest and most sheltered part of the port, and the perfect spot for your first SUP session.

Frequently asked Questions

Do I need experience?

Yes — solo sessions are strictly for those with prior SUP experience. Beginners should book a Guided Session.

How long does it last?

1.5 hours on the water. Allow 2 hours total including changing and briefing.

What should I bring?

Swimwear, a towel, and suitable clothing for being outdoors — warm layers or suncream (often both!).

Can I bring my own wetsuit?

Yes — you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Can children join a solo session?

Yes, but children must be accompanied by an adult, with a strict 1:1 adult-to-child ratio on the water.

We also run kid-friendly instructor-led sessions that may be more suitable — get in touch for details.
